As the cost-of-living rises, eating out at a restaurant is becoming a luxury to many. With the inflation rate increasing gradually, it’s inevitable that restaurants would increase their prices to help with the operational costs. Just recently, two local kopitiams located in Kepong are at ‘war’ to see who can offer the cheapest drinks to attract more customers!

According to local newspaper Oriental Daily, it was reported that for the past month, the two local kopitiams, Restaurant 747 and Restaurant TZH Foodland has been ‘waging war’ against each other, where they’re offering their drinks at a very affordable price. Interviewing both food operators, it was said that the motive behind their action is to encourage more customers to patron their shops.

Speaking to one of the customers, Tian Guan Fu (transliterate) shared that he has always patronised Restaurant 747 and they’ve always sold their drinks at RM2.60. In conjunction with their 13th year of operating, they’ve decided to price all their drinks at RM1.30.

“I choose to support them because they’re very affordable and their quality is maintained despite the decrease in price”, said Tian.

As for Restaurant TZH Foodland, they’ve decided to take things up a notch by offering their drinks at just RM1. This is in conjunction with their grand opening. When interviewed, the owner of the restaurant mentioned that they’ve decided to price their drinks at RM1 for the sake of the locals.

“It is our intention to give back to the community and provide drinks that are affordable to those who patronise us. We aren’t trying to ‘take down’ other food operators.”

However, the silver lining is that both restaurants have simultaneously agreed that their cheap prices for drinks have helped increase their sales by 20-30%. For those who are interested in checking out both stores, here’s their location:
