As the old adage would go, crime never pays, as evidenced by how a drug trafficking syndicate operating in the Jingang Baru area of Kuala Lumpur was recently foiled by the local authorities. As reported by local news outlet The Vibes, as many as 27 suspects were rounded up during a raid that was organised at an apartment complex there.

Local police bust drug trafficking ring in KL

Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman said the suspects are all male and aged between 23 to 40. According to him, the bust will bring the end to a drug trafficking syndicate that has been operating actively in the Sentul area for the past six months.

Video footage of the raid operation quickly made the rounds over social media after some of the suspects had attempted to flee police arrest by climbing from apartment windows and up onto the roof of the four-storey building.

Needless to say, their attempts were quickly thwarted by law enforcement officials who were quick to detain them in the midst of their escape. In fact, some had used a crane in order to reach the offenders who were lurking on the roof, much to their chagrin.

All suspects tested positive for drug use

Following their arrests, urine tests that were conducted on the detainees indicate that all of them were positive for methamphetamine use. What’s more, they all also had prior criminal records for drug-related offenses. They were remanded and hauled off to the Sentul district police headquarter’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for further action.

“The case is being investigated under Section 39B as well as Section 39(A)(1), Section 12(2), Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Measures – Special Preventive Measures) 1985 and Part III of the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.” Yahaya adds.

Local authorities are also in the process of identifying other syndicate members, as well as track down the source of supply for the drugs. The illicit substances seized during the raid amounted to RM6,000.
