Usually, walking through a back alley can be a scary experience. But not here in Penang! TikTok user Qazim Zim shared his wonderful discovery while exploring the streets of Georgetown.

In a 15-second video, Qazim took viewers on a virtual tour around the lesser-known parts of the island. “I think one of the initiatives I like in Penang is that they actually converted back lanes into super walkable spaces,” his caption reads.

As Qazim ventures around, the paths are flanked by various amenities surrounding it. Mini playground rides and exercise equipment are seen in the video, with colorful and eye-catching designs.

Furthermore, Qazim adds that the vast spaces make walking much safer, as compared to narrow pedestrian paths. “And like when you go on a 5-foot way lane, it’s always so crowded. You’re always so close to the edge of the road,” he laments.

His video has since gone viral, garnering approval from thousands of online users. Many locals were also surprised by this newfound convenience, with most of them not knowing it existed!
