Regardless of how one may feel about dog, cats, or other animals, it should go without saying that one should never resort to violence or worse still, murder. Not only is it morally wrong, the abuse and killing of stray or pet animals is in fact a prosecutable offense by Malaysian law. as outlined by Section 428 of the Penal Code, the Wildlife Conservation Act (2010) as well as the Animal Welfare Act (2015).
Subang Jaya family’s dog dies from alleged poisoning
Tragically, a family in Subang Jaya would make a devastating discovery when their Belgian Shepherd pet dog started vomiting before later passing away sometime around midnight last Thursday (February 16th, 2023). According to community newspaper SJ Echo, the dog’s owner, surnamed Wong, grew suspicious over her pet’s sudden and violent death and decided to review closed-circuit television footage of their home compound.
From recordings obtained earlier during the evening at around 11.32pm, a man was captured on camera visibly throwing an unidentified object into their home, before leaving the scene.
Apparently Wong claims that they had previously found other items that were tossed into their home compound, including a torn-off piece of bread that contained unidentified ‘medicine’ stuffed inside it, as well as ‘sweets’ that her children picked up that she suspected could be either poison or drugs.
Previously found other objects thrown into their house
She promptly lodged a police report at 1.22am on the same day of her dog’s passing, explaining that she failed to do so previously upon finding the mysterious objects as she lacked evidence, but is now concerned for the safety of her child.
Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat has since confirmed that a report was lodged on February 16th over the incident.
“The Belgian Shepherd was allegedly poisoned. We have sent the dead dog to Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Veterinary Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.” he said.
Results from the autopsy are expected to be ready in a few days, with local police investigating the case under Section 428 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering useless any animal or animals. Upon conviction, the accused may face up to three years of jail time, a fine, or both.
