S’pore employer offers RM5,000 salary for Roti Canai chef, includes other perks like accommodation!

`As the cost-of-living rises, many people have found it hard to make ends meet. With the lucrative currency exchange at our neighbouring country, Singapore, plenty would choose to head over in hopes of a better future. Just recently, a job advertisement looking for a Roti Canai Maker from a Singapore employer has made waves online for its salary and benefits offered!

S’pore employer offers RM5,000 salary for Roti Canai chef

With the recent high demand for Roti Canai makers needed in Singapore, local newspaper New Straits Times has reported that many Singapore based employers have been putting in advertisement in Malaysian newspapers. For those who are unfamiliar, Roti Canai is a popular Malaysian flatbread that has become a staple food in Malaysia. It is also known as “roti parata” in some regions.

Following that, the local mail proceeded to share a vacancy. Looking at the vacancy listed, the Singapore employer is said to be looking for a Roti Canai maker, offering a salary of RM5,000 and above. Other benefits listed in the advertisement including, prayer room, accommodation as well as meals provided.

The English daily also shared that there’s been a surge in demand for skilled workers, offering lucrative salaries, with no requirement for higher education certificates. While the offers listed may be lucrative, a local restaurant association warns that the grass may not be greener on the other side.

Restaurant and Bistro Owners Association vice-president Jeremy Lim said,

“The salary may seem competitive, but it may not afford a comfortable lifestyle overseas.

However, it’s undeniable that Malaysia is losing their talents, especially those residing in Johor. While the attractive salary benefits may be one of the factors, many people who decide to head overseas would also consider other factors like range of opportunities.
