Over the past number of recent years, Malaysians have rightfully grown concerned over the increasing instances of flash flood incidents that have taken place in the country. This is especially true in major areas of the Klang Valley, where issues such as pollution of local waterways and drainage systems have only exacerbated the flooding situation as a result of torrential rainfall come monsoon season.

With that said, one man recently took it upon himself to do what he could in order to prevent a local highway from becoming inundated with rainwater. As shared through a video clip on the popular social media platform TikTok by local user juharmariankha, motorists witnessed how a motorcyclist decided to stop alongside the Pasir Gudang highway that was left congested due to steadily rising water levels that occurred as a result of considerable rainfall.

And despite less than ideal conditions, the motorcyclist made no reservations about getting down to work immediately and by using a gardening hoe, dug out a small trough from the grassy road shoulder leading down towards a drain. Under the heavy patter of raindrops, he toiled away until a clear trough was formed, allowing the excess rainwater to flow away from the expressway and keeping other motorists safe as they drove past.

High praise from netizens

The video has since gone viral across social media, with many netizens praising the motorcyclist for his selflessness.

“Great. If you ease the affairs of others, Allah SWT will ease your affairs too.”

However, others have taken to questioning the government’s inability to keep these roadways properly maintained, leaving ordinary Malaysians to take up the job themselves.

“During the rainy season, the authorities such as the Public Works Department and local government should be making rounds and checking on roads to see where water collects, and find ways to clear it.”
