Over the years, many famous chefs have emerged in Malaysia but there’s one chef that has always been prominent in Malaysia and that’s Chef Wan! For those who are unfamiliar, Datuk Redzuawan bin Ismail also known as Chef Wan is famous for appearing on Anthony Bourdain’s show back in 2005.
Chef Wan diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer
Following his career, Chef Wan has managed to make a name for himself and currently has several restaurants under his name. However, just last night, the famous chef has posted a lengthy post regarding his health. Unfortunately, in his post, he revealed that he has been diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer.
He shared that he had undergone an electrocardiogram (ECG) test and a biopsy test done on his lymph nodes, which came back positive, confirming that he has lymphoma cancer. Subsequently, he was referred to an oncologist, where he was thoroughly explained as to what he can do to fight this.
Remains positive and cheerful
“The first step is to do a pet scan to see if this cancer had spread to other parts of my organs and determine what stage I’m in”, he said.
However, the silver lining is that he discovered it prior to feeling sick and this is a strong indication that it’s still in its early stage, if the pet scan is positive. Looking at his situation, he shared that the chances of him surviving is 70% to 80%. He also said that he will do a bone marrow test as lymphoma cancer is also linked to his bone marrow.
He will also be undergoing chemotherapy which will last for 13 weeks, and he is told to expect severe hair fall, diarrhea and vomiting. Despite having to process such difficult news, he still managed to joke around in his post and asked for everyone to not worry about him and he will be okay.
“Thank you for all your prayers and good wishes, we will go through together”, he said ending his post.
Keep the fighting spirit and we hope you have a speedy recovery, Chef Wan!
