In the latest update to the ongoing political impasse that has resulted from the hung Parliament after the 15th General Elections in Malaysia, the Royal Palace has issued a statement announcing that both leaders of Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional coalitions will be granted an audience with His Majesty KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 4.30pm today.
PH & PN leaders to meet at Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 4.30pm
According to the statement dated November 22nd, 2022, this is said to be the case after it was found that neither political coalition has still managed to obtain majority support from within Parliament as of the earlier 2.00pm deadline. The Supreme Council of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition has said that they will not support either PH or PN, and will resign themselves to taking up the role as part of the Opposition in Parliament.
“After being presented with the confirmation of Prime Ministerial candidates, it has been found that no member of the Dewan Rakyat has obtained the trust of a simple majority to be elected as Prime Minister, as prescribed under the Article (Article 43(2) Federal Constitution) above.”
“In light of how no member of the Dewan Rakyat has managed to obtain a simple majority, His Majesty has ordered leaders of both Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional to meet at the Royal Palace at 4.30pm today.” the statement reads.
His Majesty has also urged Malaysians to continue to remain patient and remain calm until the formation of the new government and the announcement of the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia can be made.
