For many Malaysians, talk of corruption often proliferates our local headlines, leaving many to grow inured to its effects. Described as dishonest or fraudulent behavior committed for the sake of personal gain, such incidents often leave the public shortchanged as they endure the effects of avarice by those in positions of influence and power.
PAS President Hadi Awang claims non-Muslims & non-Bumiputeras are the majority involved in corruption
Speaking on the matter via Facebook, PAS President Hadi Awang has recently urged for corruption to be stamped out in the country in a holistic manner, comparing it to a disease and pointing to those who engage in the practice as having committed an indefensible sin.
And while we can all agree on that note, he has also cast aspersions upon non-Bumiputeras and non-Muslims in Malaysia, claiming that they made up the bulk of numbers among those involved in incidents of corruption in Malaysia and described them as the ‘roots of corruption’.
“So much so, that it is among those who control the country’s economy that use it to destroy politics, the administration, and the judiciary.
In fact, they are also the biggest groups that damage the country’s politics and economy, the majority of them being non-Muslims and non-bumiputeras.” he said.
Those who are corrupt lack the integrity to pick a good leader
However, he has not made any clarification or justification behind the basis for his inflammatory racial claims. Hadi would then go on to state that countries riddled with corruption will never succeed, regardless of their high income and advanced development, and adds that those who are engaged in any form of corruption should be eradicated as they will lack the integrity needed to choose a right leader. And a failure to pick a right leader in itself can also constitute as a sin in itself.
Pointing out that even those who are educated with diplomas and degrees can be prone to corruption, Hadi states that only the Muslim faithful are capable of integrity.
His post comes in the wake of the recent Littoral Combat Ship saga in which RM6 billion was paid for by the government for the procurement of six vessels for the Malaysian Navy that have yet to be delivered, in addition to former premier Najib Razak’s ongoing trial.
