It is generally understood that during the month of Ramadan, Muslims across the world would be entering a period of fasting as per the tenants of Islam. This would mean abstaining from food and drink after sahur, and breaking fast upon sundown during iftar.

But one woman in Kelantan was recently found by local authorities to be selling packaged meals to other Muslims who were secretly skipping their fast.

Her clandestine business was foiled by the Bachok Islamic Religious Office and Bachok District Council during a raid that was carried out last Saturday (March 26th, 2023).

As reported by local newspaper Sin Chew Daily, as many as 20 packets of rice cooked with chicken were found stashed inside a washing machine.

Apparently, the woman would sell the food directly from her home to customers who contacted her in secret. Following that, she was given a strict warning notice to not sell food during this fasting period and was instructed to attend counselling sessions over her misdemeanor.

Members of the public have also been urged to respect each other’s faiths during the fasting month.
