Commuters who live in the Klang Valley area are expected to face a week of frustrations and challenges in getting about, after it was announced that 16 stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line would be shuttered to facilitate in repair works. As such, many have been forced to find alternative modes of transportation, or make detours along their usual routes in order to get to work or home.
Woman robbed after taking detour to work due to LRT closure
Unfortunately in doing so, this has also led a woman falling victim to the machinations of robbers. Taking to Twitter to share her hair-raising ordeal, local netizen Sophia said that the incident had taken place in-front of the Desa Pandan condominium, near the Sri Rampai LRT station. In speaking with WauPost, she shares that at the time, she had phoned her father to pick her up from the area and send her to work after the LRT station closures on Wednesday (November 9th, 2022).
Her father then told her to head across a nearby pedestrian walk and wait for him there, so that he could drive up to collect her. Not thinking too much about the request, Sophia did just that.
As she was walking down the road leading from the condominium, she noticed that two men wearing skeleton masks were approaching her direction on a motorbike.
“I kept on walking, thinking that I’ll see my dad in a sec because I just called him to update him about my whereabouts.” she said.
Lost her company laptop due to the incident
And in that very moment, one of the men got down from their motorbike and grabbed her laptop bag from her. At first, Sophia tried resisting, but then robber then took a knife out and started slashing at her bag. She decided to then let them have the bag, and both men fled the scene with her belongings.
Saying that she was in a state of panic after the incident, Sophia described the men as skinny and tanned. Unfortunately in the heat of the moment, she was not able to recall their number plates or how their motorbike looked. Due to the robbery, she wound up losing her company’s laptop and a mouse, which was in the laptop bag. Fortunately, her phone and wallet were safe as they were kept in her lunch bag the entire time.
A police report has since been lodged on the matter, with local authorities telling her that they would investigate the robbery and review CCTV footage from the area. From her experience, Sophia advises commuters to walk in groups instead of being alone to avoid falling victim to such incidents in the future.
