It goes without saying that being the sole breadwinner of your family can be incredibly tough, especially when so many members of the household depend on a single source of income for a varied number of expenses. In light of this, a local man recently took to submitting an annonymous confession to local community Facebook group MY (Malaysia) Facebook, expressing the grouses he had as the only provider at home.
Man earning RM30k says his wife complains receiving RM18k from him isn’t enough
Explaining his situation, the man claims that he is currently earning a comfortable salary of around RM30,000 per month, which is used to support his wife and four children. In all respects, many consider his family to be quite well off, and he adds that he feels fortunate that all of his children are also incredibly obedient. With that said however, he admits he is bothered by his wife’s incessant nagging.
As a housewife and stay-home mother, the man said that she does a great job at keeping the house in order and puts a lot of effort into raising their children well. But he then goes on to claim that she always pressures him to earn more money, and complains that the RM18,000 that she receives from him every month isn’t enough.
“The house, the car, even the utilities are all paid for by me. Is giving her half of my salary still not enough?” he asked.
Lamenting the fact that he has to cut back on his own spending and save on his meals, he wonders how it is that his wife is able to go through such a huge sum of money in a single month, and asks if RM18,000 is no longer enough for household expenses.
Netizens discuss with varied opinions
Netizen reactions have been divided over the man’s alleged frustrations. Some empathized with him and said that his wife didn’t realise how lucky she actually is.
“Your wife is so fortunate, and yet she has no idea.”
But others claim that he is only sharing his side of the story, and failed to account for other expenses that his wife may have to pay for using the amount.
“You can’t compare with other people. For starters, what kind of dishes do you normally eat at home? Do you just eat simple meals? Everyone has different tastes. And what about school? Do your children go to private schools, or government schools? What about insurance? You didn’t mention that you paid for insurance. Different people have different expenses. We only hear your side of the story, not all of it.”
“She is probably spending most of that RM18,000 on your four children. From tuition classes to school fees, babysitter fees and hobby classes. Then there’s also the children’s insurance and other daily expenses. Bear in mind that you have 4 kids, and the expenses of children now can sometimes be more than that of an adult. And of course, you may still have to pay for your mortgage and car loan on installments. But that depends on what sort of a house you live in and car you drive, on top of petrol and other utilities. Certainly, some things can be cut off. But that depends on the lifestyle you want.”
“If you have to send your four kids to international school in addition to extra co-curricular activities and other parenting expenses, it really isn’t enough.”
Some even felt that he was simply trying to brag about his income.
“He’s just writing this to brag.”
“These are the problems of the wealthy. For ordinary people like me, I can only be envious.”
