One of the unfortunate realities that many women have to experience while going out in public is the need to remain constantly aware of their surroundings, lest they fall victim to any untoward incidents. And this was proven to be especially true in a recent incident that was shared by local netizen 郑美子, who had confronted an alleged pervert at the Masjid Jamek LRT station.
M’sian woman confronts alleged pervert who groped another female commuter on LRT
In a lengthy post recounting the entire ordeal, she explained that she had been disembarking from one of the trains that happened to stop at the station on December 3rd, 2022 when she stumbled upon another female commuter arguing with a man dressed in a red T-shirt. At the time, she noticed that the other woman appeared angry, with her eyes rimmed with red.
Curious as to what sparked the altercation, she took off her Bluetooth earphones to listen in, and learned that the woman had claimed she was molested by him as they were stepping out from another LRT carriage. The victim alleged that the man, spying an opportunity with ample crowds around the area, had reached over her thighs and groped her over her crotch. She then proceeded to confront him over the matter.
“He responded rudely while the woman was berating him, and it almost seemed like he didn’t think he did anything wrong.” she observed.
The netizen then intervened and asked the man if he had in fact touched the other female commuter. Appearing irate by her involvement, he yelled at her in Tamil. She then decided to ask his friend, wearing a black shirt, about the matter instead.
“I asked him if his friend [man in red shirt] had touched the woman. He [man in black shirt] immediately apologised and said, “Sister sorry, my friend mabuk.” (Sister I’m sorry, my friend is drunk.),”
Eventually had the man detained
Surprised by the swift apology, the netizen pointed out that this must not have been the first time that the man in red had groped others before. Their row eventually attracted the attention of a bystander, who told the netizen that they should report the matter to the authorities so that the alleged culprit could be taught a lesson.
“Only when a local Indian man stepped up to help me translate while speaking to the red-shirt man did he appear to calm down a little. I told him to wait as I flagged down a member of the Auxiliary Police Force.”
The group was then escorted to the station’s office by the authorities, so they could get a clearer picture of what had transpired. Auxillary police officers would later handcuff the culprit and have him brought to the Dang Wangi police station, while the victim was told to go to the Pudu police station to record her statement.
Her post ends with a reminder to all women to always remember to look out for one another, and to remain vigilant when out and about.
