Temples are usually a sacred place where people would head to and pay their respects to their God. As the temple would need regular maintenance, a donation box is usually placed in the temple for those who’d wish to donate. Unfortunately, news broke out that a man in Jiang Xi, China had stolen money from the donation box.

Man from China gets caught for stealing money from temple donation box

According to Jimu news, it was said that the local authorities have received multiple reports whereby money is being stolen from the Shuangyang temple in Yiyang city back on July 8. Launching an investigation, the police made their way towards the temple and quickly found out that a man in a sporty black shirt and red stripes have been frequenting the temple for the past few days.

While frequenting temples are normal, what raised the suspicion of the authorities were because the man was acting weird around the donation box. Probing further, the man later identified as Ye Mou, confessed to his crime of stealing the money from the donation box.

However, he was quick to defend himself saying that he was merely ‘borrowing’ the money and had prayed to Buddha before taking the money from the donation box.

“The Buddha statue gave me an ‘okay’ sign!’, he said.

Upon further investigation, it was said that the man was facing some financial difficulties and resorted into stealing from the donation box. Prior to this, he was always seen washing his clothes at the pond near the temple. As he frequents the area, he caught on that the donation box was always left unattended and unlocked. Following his actions, the man was reprimanded by the authorities and was sentenced to 12 days of administrative detention.

Here’s a reminder to not steal as it could lead to serious consequences, despite being in a tough spot.
