Incentives and gifts could be seen as motivation and encouragement for one to work hard, especially when it comes from a figure of authority. With that said, plenty of children in school would strive to do their best, in hopes of getting the recognition and praises from their teachers and parents.
M’sian teacher sets up mini mart in classroom to motivate students
Just recently, a Malaysian teacher known as Cikgu Anne has shared her unique yet wholesome idea of rewarding her students when they’ve collected enough stars to exchange gifts from her mini mart! This brilliant idea is designed to encourage her students to not skip classes and at the same time motivating them to do well in their studies.
In a tweet shared by Cikgu Anne’s husband, Muhamad Nazmi, the mini mart that is entirely funded by Cikgu Anne herself includes items like stationeries, toys and living essentials like toothbrushes, soap and even mugs. To no surprise, her creativity and passion towards teaching has allowed her to win the 2023 Teacher Inspiration award.
The ceremony that took place in Melaka was attended by the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Siddiq, who shed some tears while giving her speech about Cikgu Anne. In her speech she said,
“This multi-dimensional concept has helped plenty of students especially those who fall in the B40 category and are suffering.”
Nazmi then continued in his thread sharing that he is very proud of his wife’s achievements, vowing that he would continue to support her and her efforts in making sure that her students will be well taken care of. In a world where children are the future, it’s definitely comforting knowing that there are passionate and dedicated teachers who would go above and beyond to ensure their students welfare.
Keep up the great work Cikgu Anne, may your students shine as bright as you do!
