M’sian students in UK misses the mixed rice experience, recreates one in their dorm!

Mixed rice, also known as “chap fan” or “economy rice,” is a popular Malaysian dish that offers a diverse selection of dishes served with steamed rice. Just recently, a bunch of students studying in UK has decided to recreate the experience of having mixed rice right in their dorm.

Missing the lively experience of having mixed rice, a user on XiaoHongShu happily shared how she and her friends recreated a mixed rice experience in their dorm. Looking at the post, the woman mentioned that they’ve joined forces and cooked over 12 dishes. To complete the experience, they even had one of their friends act as the vendor, pricing their food based on the dishes they picked.

Looking at the video, the food prepared includes classic dishes like curry, steamed egg, prawns and meats. To further enhance their experience, they even prepared red plates! Speaking to Wau Post, the woman shared that she’s been studying in UK for over 2 years and will complete her studies in another 2 years.

When asked how they got the idea, she mentioned that one her friends missed the feeling of having mixed rice.

“He is a chef and told us that he misses the mixed rice experience, so we decided to recreate it”, she said.
