As the cost-of-living rises, it’s typical for restaurants to increase their menu prices as they would need to combat the inflation that affects their operational costs. With that said, eating out has become a luxury for some as finding a place that serves affordable meals are hard.
M’sian politician suffers from ‘toothache’ after finding out the price for his breakfast
Just recently, Malaysian politician Teng Chang Khim has shared a post on his social media, revealing that he has suffered from a ‘toothache’ from the breakfast he had that morning. Reading into his post, it turns out that his ‘toothache’ did not come from anything sweet, but rather from the exorbitant price he had to pay for his breakfast.
Looking to get a quick fix at a kopitiam nearby, he went ahead to order a cup of Milo and a bowl of pork noodles. As his food and beverage arrived, he was told that his bowl of noodles costed him RM8, while his cup of beverage costs RM3.60.
“Size of wallet increases as value of money decreases”, he said.
Following his post, Teng revealed that he will be reverting back to his home cooked breakfast where it includes half-boiled eggs, bread and a cup of Milo to combat the marked-up prices.
As his post garners attention from netizens, here’s what some of them have to say:
“YB, did you just find out how costly breakfast are? Even in a small town like Sekinchan, it would cost RM8 and above. Our tooth has been aching for a long time, the noodles were only RM3 a decade ago.”
“RM8 for a bowl of noodles is normal, there are other places that would mark up the prices even more.”
“YB, a bowl of noodles for RM8 is considered decent and affordable.”
“That’s pretty cheap, a bowl of noodles would usually cost around RM9-10.”
