As the pandemic restrictions locally are lifted, Malaysians across the country are finally able to travel abroad once again. That being said, many have also begun flooding their local Immigration Department offices in order to renew their passports ahead of their vacations.
As one can expect, renewing your passport also comes with a number of regulations, especially when it comes to your attire and appearance, to ensure that you are who you claim to be on your documents when reaching international points of entry.
M’sian woman plucks her lash extensions out to get her passport renewed
Last week, a Facebook user by the name Shakira Mamii has shared her experience renewing her passport. In her post, she recounted how she had woken up early and went through traffic just to get her passport renewed at the Kotaraya UTC. As she arrived at around 8:30am, she had to queue for a bit before getting her number.
“I had to wait for 2 hours but I’m sure other people had it worse”, she said.
Upon reaching her turn to get her passport renewed, she mentioned that the counter officer she was assigned to didn’t have much to say as she fulfilled the stipulated dress code. While noting that she did just dye her hair not long ago, Shakira tied it up to ensure that it didn’t obstruct any part of her face when taking her passport photograph.

However, a counter officer sitting in the next booth reminded the officer she was assigned to about the lash extensions she had on. Consequently, she was told that in order to process her passport renewal, she would first need to remove all of her eyelash extensions. Given the fact that she had just gotten them done, she told the officer that she isn’t able to do so.
“The officer then told me to get it taken off at the shops before returning to get my passport renewed”, she adds.
While she admits she knew about rules surrounding coloured contact lenses and heavy makeup, Shakira had forgotten how her lash extensions could also pose as a potential problem. Not wanting for her trip to be wasted, she then headed over to the washroom nearby and slowly plucked her lash extensions out by hand.

Thankfully, she was able to get her passport done after removing her lashes and urged other women who gets lash extensions to be cautious of this before getting their passports renewed.
