It should go without saying that when using public facilities such as parks, toilets, or even roadways, we should always make a point to ensure that they are well cared for so that they may be used and enjoyed by others as well.
However, this rather common and considerate rhetoric appears to have eluded one man, who has recently caught the ire of local netizens after he was seen committing an egregious act on camera.
Man seen scattering nails on road from moving vehicle in Perak
In a video that was widely shared across the local social media space, a vehicle following behind a black Nissan Almera sedan shows how while driving, a man behind the wheel could be visibly seen scattering nails down onto the road, endangering the lives of other motorists.
According to netizen @apanakdikato, it was alleged that the driver had been attempting to puncture the tyres of unsuspecting road users, in hopes of drumming up demand for his business. Though it isn’t immediately clear as to what manner of business the implicated man is involved in.
Shortly after the clip went viral last Friday (31st March, 2023), local authorities announced through a statement that a full investigation will be launched to determine the suspect’s whereabouts.
Suspect has since been arrested
As reported by local news agency Astro Awani, Batu Gajah Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said that the incident was said to have taken place at the traffic lights of Jalan Ipoh-Lumut/Pusing near Batu Gajah.
Apparently, a report was lodged after one motorist suffered a punctured tyre as a consequence of running over one of the scattered nails.
But not long after, it has been reported by Sinar Harian that the suspect, who has been identified as a 45-year-old man, has been detained by the police in Changkat Larang, Lahat at around 3.00am on Saturday. He has since tested positive for methamphetamine use during his arrest, and was found to also have prior drug-related criminal records.
He will be remanded for four days until Tuesday, and will be investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
