M’sian hilariously shows how she almost spent 3 months paying off a cup of RM15 coffee for the sake of a discount

It goes without saying that we all love a good bargain or discount. With that in mind, many businesses often make it a point to lure in new customers to try their products and services by offering them special promotions. And it is through one of these promotions that a Malaysian woman wound up being drawn in to try out a brand-new service, with hilarious results.

Malaysian almost spent 3 months to pay off RM15 cup of coffee

In a tweet dated back in February 21, a Twitter user, @FrhanaAzman has shared how she bought drinks from a well-known coffee chain. She mentioned that while she was purchasing her beverage at the counter, she was approached by a sales assistant offering her a rather lucrative discount, but with one caveat.

To be entitled for a RM10 discount off her total purchase, she would first need to sign up for a buy now, pay later instalment app and pay for the drink using it first. The instalment app offers a 3-time interest free payment and after she received her discount, her total bill came up to RM15. Without putting much thought into it, she decided to download the app and pay for her coffee with it, and made the assumption that she could just finish paying the instalment in one go later on.

To her surprise, the app would only allow her to pay off her instalments in one go after three days of waiting. Amused by the situation, she joked that she almost needed to wait 3 months to pay off her RM15 drink.

“I’m currently having my drink with a 3-month instalment. I’ve yet to finish paying my instalment but I’m finishing my drink already!

Needless to say, she quickly paid of her instalments at one go after waiting the prerequisite three days, instead of being saddled with debt. With her Tweet going viral, many have also shared their own hilarious reactions to the incident.

A netizen commented saying that their parents must be hating on them as they racked up a ‘debt’ by just buying coffee.

But of course, where buy-now-pay-later apps are concerned, always be sure to read the fine print and ensure that you are in good control of your personal finances before making any sort of a long-term commitment!
