Born on the streets of concrete jungles, stray animals learn from a tender age that they have to fend for themselves in order to survive. Given that fact, extending them a little kindness truly can go a long way, whether it be offering them a small meal or even shelter when they need it.
M’sian little girl bravely saves puppy from drain
In the case of one little girl, she decided to go the extra mile where goodwill is concerned, and that decision resulted in a truly life-changing experience for both her and her family. Taking to their social media channels, local animal activist group myforeverdoggo shared the courageous tale of how local animal rescue and shelter organisation founder Mr Mukunnan Sugumaran’s daughter helped rescue a small puppy from danger.
In a video that was reposted from the Malaysian Animal Welfare Association (MAWA)’s TikTok page, Mukunnan explained that their family had first started hearing noises emerging from a drain located close behind their home back in May 2016. Deciding to investigate, both Mukunnan and his wife realised that the opening was too narrow for full-grown adults to fit into.
However, it provided just enough room for their then four-year-old daughter, Madhushree, to squeeze through. which she bravely did with help from her father who kept a torch lit at the opening.
After a few moments, Madhushree emerged once again, this time with a new friend in tow: a tiny puppy covered in golden fur that was barely larger than the size of an adult human’s hand.
“We asked our little girl if she could help? She said ‘yes’ and she went in without hesitation, and brought out a pup.” Mukannan recalls.
As their daughter climbed out from the drain, her mother could be heard praising the courageous rescuer while her father brought the puppy up to the curb.
“She’s so adorable!” the little girl quipped.
Mukannan reveals that the area would later witness heavy rainfall, potentially putting the puppy’s life in danger had it not been rescued.
6 years later, they are both inseparable best friends
Their family eventually decided to adopt the little puppy and gave her the name of Princess Bujji. A subsequent clip on MAWA’s TikTok page documents how they cared for the puppy, with Mukunnan feeding the tiny tyke using a baby bottle filled with milk.
Another endearing moment was captured on camera when Princess Bujji laid herself next to Madhushree while she was scrolling through her smartphone, both clearly enjoying in each other’s company.
It wouldn’t be long before Princess Bujji grew to become a healthy, active and playful dog, quickly assuming the role of Madhushree’s best friend.
“They played and slept together. Both were [the] best of friends. And they still are good friends.” Mukunnan said.
Now fully grown, a third video shows how attached Princess Bujji has become with her family members, beaming happily as she was petted.
In speaking with WauPost, Mukunnan explained that MAWA was first established back in 2016 out of the shared loved that both he and his wife had for dogs, after they rescued two strays in 2013.
“We promised ourselves that when we move to a place our own, we will adopt 2 from the streets.” he said.
Today, their shelter houses as many as 300 dogs and often run adoption drives for those keen on adding a four-legged furkid to their homes.
