Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country located partly on a peninsula of the Asian mainland and partly on the northern third of the island of Borneo. A diverse population is observed, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous ethnic groups coexisting. With that said, the country is known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant cities, beautiful landscapes, and a mix of traditional and modern influences, attracting many international tourists!
Malaysia becomes top choice for traveling
According to a post by @seasia.stats, an infographic was released showcasing that Malaysia has become the top of the list, when it comes to attracting international tourists. In the list, 9 countries were mentioned including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
Looking at the post, from January to November, Malaysia has attracted over 26 million international tourists in 2023! Comparing the numbers to other Southeast Asia countries, it’s evident that Malaysia has become the top choice for traveling, with Thailand following closely behind bringing in 24.6 million international visitors.
Similarly, Singapore has secured the third spot in the list, bringing in over 11.3 million tourists, while Vietnam brought in over 11.2 million visitors. However, it’s worth noting that the statistics posted aren’t a complete comparison as Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia’s official tourism ministries only released statistics up to October.
Laos and Myanmar only had their statistics released past September and August, while Brunei and Timor-Leste did not release any statistics.
Following the statistics, many netizens have commented on the post and here’s what some of them said:
“Tourists generally would enjoy heading to Malaysia and Thailand because they like the food there, especially in Malaysia. There’s plenty of variety in terms of culture and festive seasons as well!”
