Local durian seller loses RM3,000 after a customer sped away without paying for the durians he ‘bought’

For those who are unfamiliar, durian is a type of fruit that has yellow flesh and a thorny shell. Durians are often eaten on its own but with new recipes and trends, it can also be found in other food items such as ice-cream and pancakes. As durian season is returning in Malaysia, plenty of vendors are seen opening up their stalls to sell the fruit.

However, what seemed like a good day at work has turned sour in an instance, when a customer sped off in his car without paying for the durians, he ‘bought’.

According to local newspaper Kosmo!, durian seller Mohd. Ghazali Esa has suffered a RM3,000 loss after a customer sped off without paying. It was reported that the incident happened in at Jalan Kota Tinggi – Kluang, near the Mardi roundabout on May 27. Ghazali revealed that at around 4:20pm, a man had stopped by his stall, claiming that he wants to purchase durians.

“He asked for the price and said he wanted to buy all the durians that we have”, he said, adding that the man came in a four-wheeler.

Ghazali shared that it was their first day of operating and he had two staffs who were working with him at the stall. He said that the man who appeared to be in his 40s have told his staff that he wanted to buy all of the durians. Upon agreeing on the pricing given. his staff then loaded the durians onto the man’s truck.

After they were done loading the durians, the man claimed that he was going to get his money but to their dismay, he started his engine and quickly drove off towards the Mardi roundabout. Unfortunately, as the incident happened so quickly, both his staffs could only watch in horror as the man drove off.

“This has cost me a loss of RM3,000 and in addition to that, I have to pay my fruit supplier as well”, he said.

Subsequently, Kluang District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd. Noh has been alerted of the issue by Ghazali. He revealed that the case will not be treated as a case of robbery but as a case of running off with seller’s goods. As of now, the police are on the hunt for the man who stole the durians.
