Landslide in Cameron Highlands causes 1 death & 4 buried, tracker dogs dispatched to aid search

Earlier today (January 26), a landslide has occurred in Cameron Highlands, causing one man to lose its life. The landslide has also affected four other victims which are still buried underneath.

According to local newswire agency Bernama, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Mr. Ismail Abdul Ghani revealed that they’ve received the distressed call about a landslide at 2:51am. Following that, officers have been dispatched and it was said that search has been ongoing since.

In addition to that, tracker dogs have also been dispatched to the area to help aid the search. The incident was said to have occurred at Batu 54 in Blue Valley, a rather small town in Cameron Highlands. Local newspaper Sin Chew Daily has reported that the landslide has caused traffic to be disrupted.

When asked for updates, Mr. Ismail said,

“It is believed that three adult men and one woman are still buried alive, however their identities have yet to be ascertained.”

The assistant director of operations also mentioned that the nine firemen who arrived earlier on had to walk over 3km to get to the scene. As of now, the death toll remains at one, while the fate of the other four victims have yet to be discovered.
