Over the past few weeks, Malaysians have been hit with extreme weather and this has caused cases where locals would suffer from heatstroke. As the extreme weather would prolong until the August before a change can be seen, health experts have encouraged the public to drink more water and stay indoors if possible.
Policemen ushers M’sian elderly couple home after finding them resting at the roadside
Just recently, local newspaper Sin Chew Daily has shared a touching story where two policemen had found an elderly couple resting by the roadside. It was reported that the couple was on their way home on a motorbike but as the heat was too extreme, they had no choice but to stop the bike and rest at the side of the road.
However, their condition did not get better as they were about to pass out at the roadside. Fortunately, two policemen who were patrolling around the area had seen the elderly resting at the roadside. Upon investigating, the policemen found out that the elderly couple were in unfit condition to reach home safely, hence they decided to send them back home.
One of the policemen was in charge of sending the elderly couple home while the other policeman was in charge of driving their motorcycle back home. Thankfully, the elderly couple wasn’t in need of medical treatment and only needed more rest to recuperate. Following their case, local authorities have urged for the public to be cautious of their health during such weather and encouraged family members to constantly check on the elderly and children to ensure that they’re healthy.
Prior to this, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) has also published a simple yet effective health guidelines for the locals to follow so that their health would not be jeopardised. Locals are encouraged to:
- Drink more water regardless of if you’re involved in any physical activities
- Wear clothes that are made of lightweight and airy material for better airflow
- Avoid sitting in cars without proper air ventilation or air conditioner
- Using an umbrella or wearing a cap
- Limit the times spent outside
- Reduce drinking beverages that contains sugar, caffeine, and alcohol
Stay safe fellow Malaysians!
