“I actually realised the potential of the industry over 7 years ago as I started off by selling farming tools”, said the man.

After seeing that many farmers have decided to stop growing corn, Nursyafiq decided to venture into it by planting his favourite sweet corns. Learning the skills to farm corns from his friend, the hardworking man was able to grow his first batch of corn in 65 days! Understanding that it would take up to 2 months for the sweet corn to mature, he managed to turn his passion into a living by selling his harvests.

Turning his passion into a source of income!

As soon as he sold all his harvests from the first batch, he knew that it would be a stable source of income for him as suppliers would need sweet corn supply all year round. Being able to harvest up to 3 times a year, Nursyafiq has successfully turn his passion into a viable source of income!

“When I sold all 3 batches of my harvests in the first year, I knew that the demand for it is high”, he said.

Asking about the prices of his sweet corns, Nursyafiq mentioned that his sweet corns are categorized into 3 grades which are: Grade A, Grade B and Grade C. Of the 3 grades, Grade A sweet corns are priced higher due to the quality of the grains.

“For Grade A sweet corns, I would sell them to my suppliers at RM1 per cob”, he mentioned.

Sweet old corn, same old challenges

Despite the success of his harvests, the man shared that he is no stranger to challenges in this field. Revealing one of his challenges, the 38-year-old man said that his harvests have contracted fungus as well as pest attacks, causing him to lose his grains. However, with his determination, he was able to overcome the challenges, steadily producing enough harvest all year round.
