After finishing their studies, most of the young people would choose to work in the city or look for a corporate job. However for the Malaysian man, he has decided to take a different route, working as a grave digger.
34yo M’sian man decides to work as a grave digger
According to local newspaper Harian Metro, Muhammad Jailani Ahmad Zawawi, who is currently 34 years old, has been working as a grave digger for the past 15 years. When asked why he decided to choose this path, he shared that the job has taught him to be more responsible and disciplined.
“I was quite the rebel when I was young”, he said.
As he recalls his teenage life, he mentioned that he would always head out with his friends and often forgets to perform his prayers. Shortly after he finished his secondary studies, he worked in oil rigs and the wet market. Following that, his dad then made him help out by being a grave digger around Batang Benar in Negeri Sembilan.
Taught him to be more responsible
After a few years, Muhammad Jaliani then ventured out on his own in 2014. Despite the challenges he has to face when digging graves, he revealed that his job has actually benefited him in many ways.
“It has taught me to be more responsible and disciplined”, adding that his job requires him to be on 24 hours standby. He shared that there would be days where he would get calls at the wee hours of the night, and he would immediately get ready.
“This job has truly taught me a lot, it changed my life”, he mentioned.
However, Jaliani shared that working as a grave digger doesn’t provide him the same amount of salary every month. Hence, when he has free days, he would take on grass trimming jobs as a means to kill time and earn extra income.
