“I’m happy that I’m earning an honest living”, Differently abled hardworking M’sian works as a cleaner

Despite being differently abled, three of these hardworking men have decided to earn an honest living by becoming a cleaner, cleaning the streets in Seremban.

According to local newspaper, Harian Metro, Mohd Hasif Abd Rani, a 37-year-old man who suffers from hearing impairments mentioned that not everyone could work in this field as it’s exposed to dirt. Sharing about their struggles, he revealed one of the hardest parts of the job is cleaning under the sun.

“When cleaning under the scorching sun, it is difficult, but we have to do our jobs well, so we don’t receive any complaints”, he said.

Working as a cleaner for over two years, the hardworking man shared that he is grateful that he is given a chance to earn an honest living. With his income, Hasif is able to help lessen the burden of his parents. On the other hand, 34-year-old Mohd Aszmizan Mohd Hasan said that while he is eligible to receive assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM), he refused to be dependent on it.

“My parents taught me to not be reliant and I began working as a solid waste collector under the same company as them”, he said.

Suffering from speech and hearing impairments, Mohd Aszmizan is able to live independently without having to depend on anyone. Meanwhile, another employee with hearing impairment, Mohd Rossazali Roslan, 42, said he is proud of his achievements as he is able to earn an income with his own efforts.

Despite his shortcomings, the man is able to own his own vehicle, and live a normal life like everyone else. With his supportive family members, they’ve given her ample support and encouragement. SWM Environment Sdn Bhd corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said there’s a total of 18 employees who are differently abled in the company.

“They’ve become the perfect example and motivation to others to work hard”, said the general manager.
