“I will prove them wrong in LA”, Lee Zii Jia vows to come back stronger for LA 2028 Olympics

Just yesterday (August 5), our national shuttler Lee Zii Jia has won the second bronze medal for Malaysia in the Paris 2024 Olympics! Defeating Team India with a score of 13-21, 21-16, 21-11, while Malaysians were quick to celebrate this achievement, the 26-year-old shuttler was seen in his calm demeanour.

After winning the bronze medal, Lee Zii Jia accepted a short interview with an Astro Arena interviewer, where he was seen trying to keep his cool and not break down. Despite coming in third at the Olympics, Lee Zii Jia was holding back tears, as he recalls the pressure and humiliation he’s received these few weeks.

In the interview he said,

“I just tell myself, don’t give up. I’ve come this far and you know what’s going on behind closed doors.”

Expressing his feelings, the national shuttler revealed that every morning when he wakes up and reads the news, he is saddened to see his name pop up numerous times.

“There is so many news talking about me, and I wonder what I’ve done wrong”, said the shuttler.

However, despite the pressure and judgement he was receiving from the media, Zii Jia remains resilient and continued showing up for training every morning.

“I’ll just keep quiet and not respond to anything the news is saying about me”, he said.

Ending the interview, the 26-year-old shuttler vowed to come back stronger and do better in the LA 2028 Olympics. He said,

“I know this is just a bronze medal, but this is a starting point for me and I will continue to work hard and prove them wrong. I will come back stronger and do better in the LA 2028.”
