“My father was diagnosed with stroke 2 years ago and just last October, my husband was diagnosed with stroke too”, she said.

Prior to this, Kharida shared that she would depend on her husband with family expenses, while she takes care of their differently abled son and sick father. Unfortunately, as her husband becomes bed ridden, she’s left with no choice but to take on the responsibility as well.

The mother of 5 children also shared that every morning, she would send her 2 youngest children to school with her motorbike. After that, she would head home to take care of her husband and father, before tending to house chores.

“The responsibility of taking care of my father falls on me because my other siblings are also facing health issues while my oldest sibling has passed on”, she mentioned.

“I must stay strong, for my family”

Receiving a monthly financial assistance from Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK), Kharida uses the money to pay for their bills any other family expenses. On top of that, Kharida has also taken on a job where she cooks for a nursery near her place, where she gets paid about RM500 a month.

“I’m supposed to take both my husband and father for their follow up appointments, but I don’t have the vehicle to do so. I only have a motorcycle”, she said.

As of now, her father and husband are bed ridden, making it difficult for her to leave them at home for a long period of time. Not wanting any accidents to happen to them, Kharida bears the responsibility of staying at home most of the time, unless she has errands to run.
