Awkwafina, also known as Nora Lum, is an American actress, rapper and comedian who has taken part in many movies such as Ocean’s 8, Shang-Chi and Crazy Rich Asians. As she gains recognition in the film industry, she has become the first Asian to win a Golden Globe.
With that said, her newest role in The Little Mermaid where she voices Scuttle the seagull is truly something to look out for. And to Malaysian fans, in a recent interview for her newest role, Awkwafina casually revealed that she has once resided in Kuala Lumpur!
Awkwafina shares that she has once lived in Kuala Lumpur
In a recent interview she did with her co-star, Jacob Tremblay who voiced Flounder, she proceeded to greet her audience by saying,
“Hi Malaysia, I love you and miss you.”
Following that, her co-star then urged the public to head over to the cinemas to watch the live action of The Little Mermaid as it’s truly an experience you don’t want to miss. Continuing the conversation, Awkwafina then said that she hopes that the locals would catch the movie in TGV.
“I used to go there to watch movies all the time”, she said as she recalls the days where she lived in Kuala Lumpur. Pleasantly surprised by her answer, the producer then asked if she was telling the truth to which she replied saying yes.
Her love for KL did not die
While this is the first time where she mentioned that she has resided in Kuala Lumpur for a while, in another interview she did with Harper’s Bazaar on what she eats in a day, she declared her love for Malaysian food that she got to try when she was in Kuala Lumpur.
“They have this dish called Hai Nam chicken and Roti Canai, I’m like obsessed with”, she said not forgetting to emphasise that Kuala Lumpur was truly a cool food city for her.
As Malaysians who find pride in our food, it’s definitely reassuring to know that our food is being appreciated by people from around the globe!
