Earlier last week, a young couple from the state of Johor made headlines across the country after they were caught by members of the public engaged amid an intimate moment together in a parked car. Video footage of the confrontation, with saw a young man claiming that the woman straddling his lap was ‘sick’, quickly spread like wildfire over social media.
Following that, the couple were soon identified by local law enforcement authorities before being detained on April 6th. According to a statement from the police, an investigation under Section 377D of the Penal Code for outrage of decency is currently ongoing.
PDRM investigating men who filmed couple in Johor
With that said, law enforcement officers are now training their sites onto the two men who initially caught the couple on camera and have since summoned them to provide a statement, reports China Press. It was initially alleged by the couple that the men claimed to be police officers when approaching them in their car.
“We are still investigating the claim and the case from all angles before we submit our investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor for a decision,” Seri Alam district police chief Sohaimi Ishak told Malaysiakini.
Subsequently, he said that PDRM has proposed for charges to be pressed against the 2 men who filmed and shared the video online. Terbau Member of Parliament Puah Wee Tse further alleges that the men had threatened the couple when they refused to show them their MyKads.
As for the couple themselves, Sin Chew Daily reports that a number of lawyers have stepped up to represent them in court.
In related news, Malaysiakini reported that the Malaysian Red Crescent Society will be ready to assist authorities with their investigation into the case, after the shirt worn by the teenaged girl has been identified as the society’s uniform.
