Dancers graduating from Faculty of Creative Arts in UM performs mini dance before accepting their scrolls

The University of Malaya (UM), located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the oldest university in the country. Just recently, University Malaya has conducted their 63rd convocation ceremony, however, one of the faculties have caught the attention of many.

According to a video posted on TikTok, graduates from the Faculty of Creative Arts performs a simple dance on stage right before they accept their scroll. From ballet to different traditional dances, it was unique to see the students let their creativity shine through the stage.

Seeing that it was a rather unique and creative way to showcase the knowledge they’ve acquired, many of the lecturers and professors seated have also picked their phones up to film the ceremony.

Speaking to Wau Post, user @heshbie shared that amongst all the faculties that are in the university, the faculty of Creative Arts have become the only faculty that’s allowed to perform, during their convocation ceremony. When asked if the graduates have all planned to do so, one of the graduates mentioned that it was actually a tradition.

“This mini dance that we perform before accepting the scroll was actually a tradition set by our seniors long ago. Since then, it’s been passed down to juniors”, said the graduate.

As the video garners attention online, plenty of netizens have left their comments and here’s what some of them said:

“Accounting students would bring the calculator.” 

“I guess you’re a culinary student, you could bake a cheesecake on stage.”
