Living in Malaysia, it’s undeniable that Malaysians are foodies at heart! With that said, many eateries would often come up with gimmicks and delectable foods to attract customers! In a recent display of creativity, this Malaysian cafe has decided to elevate its game by being creative with their pastries!
“Croissant + ketupat”, M’sian cafe comes up with creative pastry, Croipat
Adding a touch of Malaysian into their french pastries, Olios, a cafe located in Sungai Buloh has created a unique pastry called Croipat. Blending the words croissant and ketupat, the founders have found it interesting to include local elements into their baked goods. Speaking to Wau Post, the team shared that the pastry idea came about during Ramadan!
“We thought about celebrating the festive season (Hari Raya) and thought it would be an innovative idea to include local elements into it”, he said.
Seeing that it’s a croissant and ketupat crossover, the team then decided to name it Croipat. Filled with their signature beef rendang, the team revealed that making this particular pastry would take 2 to 3 days to complete! Sharing the process with us, they mentioned that the Rendang and dough would be made a day before the lamination process.
“During the lamination process, we will attach butter into the dough to make layers, before shaping it”, they mentioned.
Nothing comes easy, especially with pastries
After all the preparation, the dough is then cut into smaller square pieces, filled with their beef rendang and covered with the anyaman (woven) dough before letting it proof and bake on the next day. Asking about the challenges faced, the team shared that the process is rather intricate as they’re racing against time.
“The most challenging part of the process would definitely be the woven dough”, he said.
Adding on to it he mentioned,
“The anyaman process (weaving dough) needs to be done quickly in order to prevent the butter inside the dough from melting. Therefore, the anyaman needs to be done in low temperature area.”
Concluding the short interview, Olios cafe shared that they will be closed for the festive season (Hari Raya) and operations will resume on April 17, 2024!
