Indeed, distance does make the heart grow fonder. Even more so when it refers to a close relationship, like the bond between a father and his son.
After 4 months of being apart, tearful reunion between father and son moves netizens’ hearts
That is what Syafiq and his young son share, and their loving reunion shows it all. In a touching video, the father and son duo meet face-to-face after months of separation.
Speaking to Wau Post, the boy’s mother Saqinah Mansor, explained that she and her husband planned the surprise. “My son Sayf requested not to know the exact date if his father were to come back,” she said. She further elaborated that her son just loves the feeling of surprise of meeting his father again.
Saqinah had picked up her husband from the airport earlier, and waited for their son to finish school. Hiding behind a wall, the father walks to their car as Sayf tells his mother about his day. The video shows the father gently knocking on the window, and Sayf turning around in surprise. It ends with the two locked in a heartwarming embrace.
“This is the first time he has cried meeting his father again”
However, Saqinah says that this is the first time her son has cried when his father returned. “The only other time he shed tears was when his father was initially deployed.” Both parents did not expect this kind of reaction, and Saqinah admits to tearing up herself. “As a mother recording, I too began to cry as I watched Sayf.”
The family often spends months apart due to the father’s job, with the longest being 5 months and a half. Saqinah’s husband is currently stationed at sea as a ship engineer. They usually keep in touch via video calls, or through sending Whatsapp voice notes. “It really isn’t easy to be far apart, but we take it as a trial we must face,” Saqinah asserts.
Online users were equally moved by the father and son, with many being brought to tears. Some of them even remarked how they wished for their own relationships to be like the family’s.
