Photography can be a powerful tool to document the world around us, capturing memories and expressing creativity. Photography can encompass a wide range of genres, with each genre requiring a different approach and set of technical skills. But nonetheless, they all share the common goal of capturing compelling and meaningful images.

Following the journey of fellow photographer and founder of CxpturingSouls, Amanda, who just celebrated her 6th year as a photographer, shared with Wau Post that her journey to become a photographer wasn’t easy!

“I realised that I always loved the idea of storytelling and the photography class I took back in college sparked an interest in me”, she said.

Amanda mentioned that she started out as a portrait photographer back in 2018, sharing that through portrait photography, she was able to capture so many emotions through the eyes and that’s when she decided to create CxpturingSouls. She believed that every individual’s eyes are the window to their souls, expressing emotions that cannot be said through words.

Subsequently. Amanda started working her way through the industry and throughout the 6 years of her journey, she was faced with plenty of challenges, including prejudice.

“Being a female creator, I wasn’t treated equally as my peers who were men and had to work twice as hard to be noticed”, she explained.

Other than that, a personal challenge she faced as a creator would be pushing her creativity and creating an identity as a creator that stands out. She mentioned that she was unable to recall the number of times her self-doubt kicked in, causing her to have a lack of confidence in the work she puts out.

A glimpse of the world through her alter ego

As a creator who strives to see the beauty in everyone she encounters, Amanda has started an ongoing series named, “The I’m more project”. The I’m more project series aims to promote diversity and acceptance, looking past the labels society puts on us. Since the start of the project, Amanda has featured over 100 individuals, regardless of their identity, gender and race, showcasing each individual’s uniqueness.

New ventures, new opportunities

As a pet lover herself, Amanda loves surrounding herself with animals and what better way to do that than to volunteer at a pet shelter. Since then, she has been dedicating her time at a shelter called My Pets Haven, helping them with any events that they host. She shared that during one of the events they were hosting, the team had suggested that she set up a pet photobooth and to her surprise, she received plenty of support.
