Malaysia is home to a rich tapestry of indigenous peoples, collectively known as “Orang Asli” in Peninsular Malaysia and “Bumiputera” in Sabah and Sarawak. These communities have distinct cultures, languages, and traditions. In an attempt to showcase and preserve their culture, a festival will be held in Central Market Kuala Lumpur!
Natives in Malaysia to come together for a festival in Central Market KL!
In a TikTok video posted by Central Market Kuala Lumpur, it was said that the Borneo Native Festival will be happening at Central Market, from May 24 to 26, 2024! Coinciding with the Kaamatan and Gawai Day festivities, this festival aims to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Borneo communities, specifically from Sabah and Sarawak.

Organized by the Kuala Lumpur Sukaseni Association, along with the support from various government agencies and cultural organizations, it provides a platform for entrepreneurs from Sabah and Sarawak to showcase their products.
“It also provides them a platform and opportunity to engage with potential collaborators in Peninsular Malaysia”, it wrote.
On top of that, notable figures and performers from the Borneo region will also be attending the festival, adding on to the significance of the festival. Attending the festival, attendees can expect various activities, as well as attractions, including traditional dance performances, cultural parades and beauty pageants.
“There will also be booths, forums, and workshops organised in collaboration with local universities and cultural organisations”, it said.
