Just over the weekend, a three-day local music festival was forced to shut down abruptly after a British band, The 1975 caused havoc on the first day of the festival. Many footages of the band’s lead singer, acting out on stage and behaving recklessly was uploaded onto social media.

Following the saga, his controversial acts which include spitting on stage, breaking a drone and drinking on stage while crticising the government’s guidelines have garnered the attention of the ministers, which led to the cancellation of the festival. As the saga continues to unfold, the said band has flown out of Malaysia the very day, subsequently announcing the cancellation of their upcoming gigs at Indonesia and Taiwan.

With the abrupt cancellation, many local and international artists, along with vendors have suffered from losses. As news broke out, Malaysian lawyer, Matthew Thomas Phillip has shared a post on his LinkedIn, pledging to represent those who have suffered losses from the cancellation of the festival.

Matthew also crticised the lead singer for his behaviour, saying that he isn’t at place to tell how Malaysia should run the country. He also condemned his reckless breach of agreement, saying that it was silly.

In a separate Facebook post, Matthew revealed that he has gathered a few lawyers that are putting in all their heart and minds to improve the first working draft of the class action by local artists and vendors against the band. He also urged for the public who possess any further information which may have a bearing on the suit against the 1975 such as the location of the assets of the the band to contact them.
