Alleged drunk driver runs over & kills 57yo retiree in Melaka after he asked him to turn down his music

It needs no saying that you should never give in to fits of rage and resort to undue violence during a dispute, for in almost all instances, it tends to only further exacerbates a situation. Tragically, one such instance would lead to lethal consequences when it claimed the life of a 57-year-old retiree in Melaka.

Melaka retiree gets run over and killed by alleged drunk driver

As reported by local newspaper Harian Metro, the incident took place in Kampung Padang along Jalan Pokok Mangga during the early hours of yesterday (February 28th, 2023) morning. According to the victim’s son, two men were seen drinking alcohol in a parked car located in the parking lot of a restaurant at Plaza Pandan Malim sometime around 12.00am prior to the incident.

“At around 2.40am, me and my father were jolted awake from our sleep after we heard loud music blearing from the parking lot area.

My father then went over to politely chide them before both men appeared to leave the scene.” he said.

He then claims that they returned back to the parking lot 10 minutes later in their car and blasted their music at an even louder volume before leaving again.

“Just as I was about to lie down, the duo returned once more in their car to make noise a few minutes later, which prompted me and my father to head back out to tell them to leave.

But out of a sudden, the duo in the car tried to run me over. Thankfully I was able to avoid them and make a run towards the rear of a 24-hour restaurant that was in the plaza.” he adds.

Suffered severe head injury

Unfortunately, the retiree was not able to evade the duo’s car in time and was knocked onto the car’s bonnet after the duo ran into him, before being dragged about 20 metres to the back of a row of shops.

The victim’s son could only watch on haplessly as his father fell onto the ground. Shouting for help, he noticed that the back of his father’s head was bleeding profusely from an injury that was most likely sustained as a result of falling against a rock. The duo on the other hand, fled the scene of the crime.

Promptly being rushed to hospital, the victim was admitted into Hospital Melaka but would later succumb to his injuries 11 hours later after being warded in Intensive Care.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested and remanded for a period of seven days in connection with the case, while authorities are still looking for another 27-year-old suspect said Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit. The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
