With the debut of her critically acclaimed film Everything Everywhere All At Once, Malaysian thespian Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has firmly established herself as among some of the most eminent names to be tapped during awards season. That comes as no surprise when one considers the runaway success of the 2022 blockbuster, which has seen USD$103.8 million in box office sales.
Michelle Yeoh becomes first M’sian to win a Golden Globe
And as the Golden Globes finally makes its return to the awards circuit once again after a brief hiatus from television, it has just been announced earlier today that Michelle has officially nabbed herself the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical!
With this feather to her cap, this would officially make her the very first Malaysian to have ever won a Golden Globe award since the accolade’s inception. She managed to beat out Lesley Manville for her work in Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, Margot Robbie in Babylon, Anya Taylor-Joy in The Menu, and Emma Thompson in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, for the win.
Other winners from the glitzy evening include Colin Farrell for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for The Banshees of Inisherin, Steven Spielberg for Best Director for his work in The Fabelmans, and Austin Butler for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for Elvis.
2022 has been a good year for the M’sian actress
Golden Globes aside, Michelle had also just become the first Asian actress to win at the National Board of Review Awards in the United States, while also featuring as TIME Magazine’s 2022 Icon of The Year.
Born in Ipoh, she first initially found success as a pageant model before transitioning into acting through Hong Kong action flicks. Michelle would eventually go on to star opposite Pierce Brosnan as a Bond girl in Tomorrow Never Dies, which launched her career in Hollywood.
