Refreshing and flavourful, it’s hard to resist the temptations that come from a delicious serving of fruit rojak. For the uninitiated, fruit rojak simply refers to a fruit salad dish popularised in Southeast Asia, which consists of tropical fruits, peanuts, as well as a hot and spicy dressing.
While typically an inexpensive dish available from most street-hawkers, one Malaysian netizen recently shared why he had absolutely no qualms in paying RM50 for his serving of fruit rojak. Sharing his experience over social media last Friday (January 6th, 2023), Mr Chiew Wei explained that he had been out for business when he pulled up next to a rojak stall.

Upon completing his errands and returning to his car, he found himself driving past the same stall again and decided to stop to buy himself a packet. As the hot weather proved too much to bear, Chiew asked the elderly seller if he could deliver the rojak directly to his car, which he parked in-front of the stall.
The seller promptly brought out his packet of rojak to him, but to Chiew’s surprise, the elderly man was in fact suffering from a physical handicap and had trouble getting around as he needed to depend on the use of a cane. In realising that, Chiew apologised profusely for troubling the elderly man, but was told that it was no big issue.
When it came time to pay, he realised that he only had a single RM50 note. As the elderly man did not have that much in spare change either, he offered to bring the RM50 note to another vendor to exchange for smaller denominations. Chiew immediately offered to do so instead. Yet, the uncle simply told him that he could pay him back if he ever visited the area again, and was happy to treat him to the rojak for free.
RM50 spent was ‘totally worth it’
Moved by his kindness, Chiew told the uncle not to worry about change and asked that he keep the RM50 instead, much to his shock and delight.
“I saw his face immediately light up, and even then he kept saying I paid him too much. But in that one moment, I realised that a RM50 packet of rojak was totally worth it.” he said.
Speaking from the experience, he said that he had no intentions of showing off and merely wanted to encourage more people to be kind to each other, even with small gestures. With his post now having gone viral, Chiew says the uncle’s stall has since been flocked by other netizens keen on supporting his small rojak business.
If you’re looking to try a packet yourself, you will find the uncle’s stall located near the Best Mart outlet along Jalan Nusa Bestari 2 2/1 in Taman Nusa Bestari 2 between 12.30pm to 4.30pm.
In the evenings, he will move his stall to near Restaurant Pearl in Bukit Indah and operates from 5.30pm to 9.00pm or 10.00pm.
