Having young children means making sure that you’re constantly keeping an eye on them so they won’t into trouble. Being at the age where they’re curious of everything and easily influenced with what they see online, it’s likely that they may put themselves in danger without even realising it.
6-year-old child sneaks out with his sibling for a ‘drive’, ends up crashing the car
Just today, local newspaper Sin Chew Daily has reported that a 6-year-old child has snuck out of his house along with his 3-year-old sibling. After sneaking out of the house, the child then took his mother’s car and went on a ‘drive’ with his brother as his passenger. As a result, the child was involved in an accident where he lost control of the car and hit a lamp post.
Subsequently, the local authorities were alerted by the public and according to Langkawi police chief, Shariman Ashari revealed that the locals have suspected that it was a case of drunk driving. Upon checking on the driver, they found out that the driver was a child and were in shock.
The accident was said to have happened at the Kampung Ulu Melaka route towards Kampung Nyior Chabang. It was believed that the pair of siblings were out without their parent’s knowledge and drove for close to 2.5km before crashing the car. Subsequently, it was revealed that the pair shares a room with their mother and had snuck out of the room while the mother was in the washroom.
Their father was resting in another room and had no idea that the pair had snuck out until the accident that occurred. Thankfully, the duo wasn’t badly injured, and the ‘driver’ only suffered from light injuries on his chin.
“The case is currently being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for negligent or dangerous driving, and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect”, said Langkawi police chief, revealing that the car the boy drove has been heavily damaged.
