Working as a hawker at a humble kopitiam at PJ Old Town, Uncle An (transliterated), has been working round the clock seven days a week. And his goal? Is to be able to afford tertiary school fees for his child to realize his dreams. According to the post by Uncle Kentang, he mentioned that Uncle An’s son is currently completing his master’s studies.

“He shared to us that his son has the urge to continue his studies, wanting to attain a PHD in mathematics and English”, he wrote.

Despite working as a hawker, Uncle An has never thought of giving up and is extremely proud of his son for having goals in life. Sharing his sentiments towards Uncle An, Uncle Kentang said,

“How many hawkers are out there, working tirelessly in hopes for a better future of their children? Their sacrifices and hard work will definitely pay off once they see their children succeed.”

Wanting to show Uncle An some appreciation, Uncle Kentang then awarded him with a “public PHD”, for hard work. Donning the graduation robe, Uncle An couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear, showcasing his gratitude towards those that appreciate him. Ending the post, Uncle Kentang urged the public to never look down on those who are working as hawkers.

“You’ll never know how much effort and hard work they’ve put into raising their children. Through their hard work, they’ve created so many professionals in our work force”, it wrote.
