The woman was said to be earning a lucrative amount from selling sex toys alone, with her clients willing to pay anywhere between RM70 to RM240 for each item, which are imported from China. As it turns out, most of her customers appear to consist of young couples who are going through long-distance relationships.

The raid, which was codenamed Ops Maya, resulted in the seizure of over 22,929 units of sex toys worth up to RM1.1 million. Investigations into the case were filed under Section 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 for ‘eroding moral values’.

Enforcement and controls division secretary Nik Yusaimi Yussof has said that the woman that was detained had been selling the products since last year before the local authorities moved in on her business.

“Initial investigations have shown that she would purchase the items from China and double up the price to sell it online”, he said.

He also revealed that there has been a high demand on such items and the ministry has been carrying out random checks from to time to time to ensure that the banned items are not sold in stores.

Members of the public are urged to inform authorities if they encounter such illegal activities via 03-8000 8000 or through the Ministry of Home Affair’s official website here.
