Netizens from within the local social media community were left shocked after a 19-year-old teenager recently took to Instagram to expose how she had been the victim of domestic violence and abuse at the hands of her own father. The incident occurred in the town of Parit Buntar, Perak when the victim was visiting her biological mother on 17 August.
A visit back home gone wrong
In a lengthy post shared to her personal account, Dahlia recounted her traumatizing experience when she was assaulted by her very own stepfather. It all happened when Dahlia reached her mother’s house in Parit Buntar around 11 pm at night.
According to the police report lodged by the victim, a verbal argument broke out between the teenager and her mother soon after she arrived. Instead of intervening to cease the fight, the stepfather who was in the bathroom at that time came out and began to assault Dahlia.

The report described how her stepfather pulled her by the neck and landed a slap on her left cheek. After she dropped to the ground, he proceeded to kick her back and stomp on her head multiple times. He even hit her head against the floor over and over.
“He repeatedly stepped on my head using his foot very strongly as if my skull was about to split,” the victim adds.
The stepfather then continued to attack her with vicious force. He kicked her to the front door while pulling on her hair and neck. In an act of desperation, Dahlia even resorted to crawling under a car to hide away from the blows, but to her horror, she witnessed her aggressor pulling out a parang (machete), ready to slash her.
Thankfully, she was saved when one of the neighbours came by after having noticed the commotion, spooking her stepfather enough that he quickly retreated back to the house and closed the door.
Left injuries to her face and body
Dahlia was brought to the Taiping Hospital the next morning to have her injuries treated. She has sustained a number of wounds to her eye, back, skull and legs, which was revealed to be fractured upon examination by her doctor. Her left cheek was also fractured from all of the beatings, and she currently cannot see properly out of her left eye.
The victim lodged a report on the same day at the Kerian District Police Headquarters. BERNAMA reported that the stepfather turned himself in on 18 September and was released on police bail the next day.
“The investigation is being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing injury and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act,” said Kerian police chief Mazuki Mat.
Asked to forgive her stepfather
Moreover, Dahlia revealed that she was asked by the police and her own mother to not hold the incident against her assailant even after they saw what he had done to her. Therefore, she could only depend on herself in seeking justice for what she had to endure.
