To the surprise of many Malaysians over last Sunday (September 4th 2022), it was reported that imprisoned former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was quietly moved out of Kajang Prison and had been admitted into Hospital Kuala Lumpur. And while speculation was rife as to what prompted the sudden admission, no clear explanation was provided to the media until just yesterday (September 5th 2022).

Taking to her official Instagram account to speak on the matter, Najib’s daughter Yana has since shed some light concerning her father’s condition. Taking the opportunity to thank those who have wished her father well and prayed for his health, she claims that the disgraced statesman has been suffering from recurrent issues with his stomach over the years.

“He is highly prone to stomach ulcers that can flare up under stress or an episode of gastritis.” she said.

Gastritis is explained as a condition which occurs when inflammation occurs in the stomach lining, which is usually caused by bacterial infection or the regular use of certain pain relievers, according to Mayo Clinic.

Citing a similar incident that occurred the year before, Yana claims that Najib had been completely unaware of his condition until he began feeling faint as a result of the internal bleeding he suffered from the ulcers, before being admitted into hospital. This had apparently also occurred back in 2010, where he spent three days warded.

Often keeps his health condition a secret, so not to worry others

Adding that her father is the type who refused to inconvenience others by complaining, he has often hidden his medical conditions to others at the expense of his own health until his condition worsened.

“By the time he shows symptoms, it is usually too late. Both episodes in the past, we caught it too late and thus, required serious medical intervention including blood transfusion.”

Yana hopes that prison officers would grant her father regular checkups and treatment as and when it is required, and urging them to take care of ‘Daddy & Bossku’.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year stint in prison for his involvement in the SRC International graft scandal.
