Just last week, news broke out that the king’s coronation ceremony will be held on the 20th of July, Saturday. With that said, the police have issued a statement informing the public that 14 roads in Kuala Lumpur will be closed off.
These 14 roads in KL will be closed off in conjunction with the king’s coronation
Following that, Rusdi Isa, the Kuala Lumpur Police chief has mentioned that these 14 roads will be closed off temporarily from 8am to 8pm. The closure of the roads is set to make way for guests attending the coronation, as well as other related events. On top of that, local English daily, FMT has also shared that over 387 policemen will be deployed to escort the VIPs and manage traffic.
“This is necessary as we want to ensure that the coronation ceremony will go on smoothly”, said the chief police officer.
That being said, here are the 14 roads that will be closed off in conjunction with Sultan Ismail’s coronation ceremony:
- Jalan Tun Razak
- Jalan Kia Peng
- Jalan Raja Chulan
- Jalan Ampang
- Jalan Sultan Ismail
- Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar
- Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim
- Jalan Semantan
- Jalan Damansara
- Jalan Istana
- Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway
- Jalan Kuching (south-bound)
- Dato Onn roundabout
- Jalan Parlimen
Road users are advised to reroute and avoid the roads mentioned above. The public is also urged to follow any instructions given by the policemen in light of the closure of the roads.
Late last year, according to the keeper of the Ruler’s seal, the Malaysia Sultans have elected Johor Sultan as the new king. On January 31, 2024, an installation ceremony was held at Istana Negara where His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim took his oath, marking the start of the ruler’s five-year term.
