When living in properties with shared facilities, it is always key to keep in mind that we should always remain considerate of the needs of others to keep the peace and maintain harmony among neighbours. Unfortunately, this didn’t seem to be the case for one Singaporean man who was in for a rather unpleasant surprise when checking on his laundry that he had left to dry outside his window.
SG man’s laundry stained with soy sauce when neighbour hangs pork slabs to dry above his unit
As reported by Singaporean portal Mothership.sg, a HDB resident living in the Bukit Batok area discovered that his once freshly-laundered clothes were stained by brown liquid that he noticed was dripping from the unit above his own. The man, surnamed Tan, initially suspected that the stains were most likely to be coffee but came to realise that it was in fact, soy sauce.
He would later come to discover that the culprit for the drippings were attributed to six slabs of pork that his upstairs neighbour had left hanging outside her own window, which inadvertently dirtied his clothes underneath.
Snapping a few photographs, he eventually took to airing his grouses on the community Facebook group ‘Complaint Singapore’, where it has since gone viral. Speaking to the portal, he claims that this was the first time he has encountered this issue in 14 years of living in the flat.
Implicated neighbour has since removed the meats
Tan eventually escalated the matter to the Chua Chu Kang Town Council, which was responsible for the management of the estate, in hopes of a resolution. A report from AsiaOne confirms that the implicated neighbour has since removed the slabs of pork after she was instructed to do so.
“Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and I thought of making pork belly, so I marinated the pork belly and left it outside to dry,” she explained to 8World News.
A resident of ten years in the flat, she adds that she did not know that she was not allowed to do so and vowed not to do it again.
