Penang FC will try their best to win the Malaysia Cup after surprising many when they managed to occupy third place after the Super League 2021 concluded yesterday.
Head Coach, Tomas Trucha said that does not mean that players can take lightly the preparation for their next match.
“I have lined up friendly matches for the team this week and next week as part of their Malaysia Cup preparations.
We must get our full strength and strive to win,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Trucha added the players need to prove themselves and work hard in the upcoming trainings to seize the opportunity to play in the Malaysia Cup as he will not feature players who do not perform well.
In the meantime, he is leaving the decision to extend his contract next season to the management of Penang FC.
He said the matter has not been discussed as the team was fully focused on the 2021 Super League competition.
“At the same time, I feel that most of the players should be retained.
They have worked hard and proved that they deserve to be kept in the team,” he said.
However, he hopes that his team will always be on their toes and work hard for next season’s Super League competition.
He said, the upcoming matches will be more difficult because, with the success that has been shown, Penang FC are no longer considered the underdogs.
Penang FC ended their Super League campaign in third place with a total of 41 points, 16 points behind Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and two points behind runners-up Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC.
The draw for the prestigious Malaysia Cup this year will be held on Sept 15 while the tournament is scheduled to start on Sept 23.
