To many pet owners, their furry (or scaly) friends are often considered to be invaluable parts of the family who are cherished and loved. And understandably when one loses a pet, it is not uncommon for them to experience a period of deep grief as a result.
Teresa Kok receives backlash for insensitive comment on Syed Saddiq’s deceased cat
And Muar MP Syed Saddiq is no more different than any other pet owner in this regard, having recently shared over his social media accounts that his beloved pet cat, Toby, passed away on Monday. Expressing his shock and grief at his cat’s sudden departure, he also thanked his late feline friend for standing by his side during the ‘toughest of times’.
The post also included a series of photographs taken of Syed with Toby in happier times, indicating that they had both shared an especially close bond between one another. Following his post, many netizens have offered an outpouring of condolences in the wake of the tragic news.
However, a comment from fellow politician Teresa Kok has left many shocked by its apparent lack of sensitivity. In a screenshot shared by local community Facebook page Meanwhile in Malaysia, she appears to have criticised Syed for failing to keep his cat’s appetite in check, instead of offering him kindness to help him cope with his grief.
“Your cat is overweight; he must have eaten too much,”
She then posited that Syed Saddiq’s cat could have suffered high cholesterol and high blood sugar, which could have contributed to its sudden passing.
“He might have high cholesterol and high sugar. You didn’t help him to ‘jaga badan’ [take care of his physique]. No wonder he died so early.”
